The first thing I want to say is if you’re
even thinking about doing an exchange, then you’ve got everything it takes to
have the time of your life. I strongly urge you to go for it.
After studying for a semester in Lund, Sweden I feel like a totally new person. Heading abroad you don’t know anyone, where to go or what to expect but that’s the beauty of immersing yourself into a new culture and out of your comfort zone. I learnt so many things, a new language, new traditions, what it’s like to go to a university and live in a city that was built in 1666, and all about pushing myself. I loved every second of discovering the unknown.
During my time at Lund University there were many festivals and even a carnival called Lundakarnivalen that had a circus, shows, games, lots of food and drinks, and three stages with different bands from midday to midnight. In Sweden they also have a tradition where you join a ‘Nation’ and each nation host events such as pub nights, dance clubs, afternoon teas, lunches and dinners. Even when there weren’t activities going on in my backyard, Lund is very close to two main airports, which made travelling around Europe a breeze. I visited 35 countries and was never bored.

As I was studying abroad there is a
learning aspect too, of course, but this was an adventure in itself. The
Swedish education system is different to ours and very interesting. Lund
University takes great care of their international students and transitioning
into their way of teaching and learning was easy. If you get a chance, make
sure you take the Introductory Swedish Course they offer, it’s free and
invaluable in teaching you every day phrases, as well as being worth credits.
My semester abroad was amazing and if I could I would’ve stayed another six months. Apply now for the time of your life.
