Stephanie's Exchange to Konkuk University | South Korea

Going on exchange was one of the best decisions ever. Even though it was my last semester of my degree it didn’t stop me from applying for the exchange program. I say if you have the opportunity then go for it!

Living in a totally different country you open your mind to so much more than you would expect. Little things like adapting to the food, learning the culture of the people there are the little things that you wouldn’t get to experience if you just went on a holiday.

You’ll be surprised by the people you meet and you’ll grow as an individual because you get to meet so many people from different countries all going to the same place during the exchange. When you’re taken out of your comfort zone, no family, no personal room, no comfort when you need it, you end up with only 2 options: to sulk and mope or deal with it face on.

And when you choose to deal with it, you grow so much, you find out just how capable you actually are, and you come home wiser, stronger, empowered. So many people told me that I was so brave for going to a country by myself where I couldn’t communicate in their language, but there’s nothing to be afraid of! Life is all about experiences.

If you don’t ever challenge yourself then where’s the excitement in life? My advice is to not be afraid to explore on your own, walk around, get lost, ask for directions, and open up your heart and mind to the amazing things you will forever cherish.
