Katrina's Guide for San Diego State University | USA
WHO AM I?
My name is Katrina Hidalgo and I live in Irvine, California. I study at San Diego State University (SDSU) and I am studying Kinesiology (emphasis in
Physical Therapy). I studied abroad at Murdoch University and the best part of my
exchange was I was able to go on a roadtrip all around Western Australia,
thanks to the exchange program! Plus the beaches and brunches all over the
place are amazing.
THE 5 BEST THINGS ABOUT THE USA
- Fast food
- Snacks
- Beaches
- National parks
- College culture
THE 5 BEST THINGS ABOUT SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY
- Lively campus culture (SDSU is largely populated and there's plenty of sports events to attend and clubs to get involved and meet people!)
- Mexican food
- Plenty of beaches nearby
- Cute urban neighborhoods around
- Fun hiking trails all over the place
WHAT I LOVE TO DO
If I'm not looking for a new place to eat at, I'm most likely enjoying my time in different coffee shops whether I'm studying or just enjoying my free time there.
MY ADVICE FOR YOU
You can’t come to SDSU without going to a tailgate party before a football game during season (American fall season). Our men's basketball team is also really good. Getting Mexican food from Trujillo's or Senor Pancho's especially on a late night over the weekends. Go to Sunset Cliffs Beach and watch the sunset.
University Heights or North Park (urban
neighborhoods with everything you want to do - lunch/dinner, cafes, bars, etc.)
MY FINAL ADVICE FOR YOU
SDSU is a pretty big and busy university. If you're ever feeling lost and/or overwhelmed, take a deep breath! Don't be afraid to step back every now and then from the excitement. And if you feel like you're not where you want to be, I like to believe that there's always a place where you fit in - you just have to find it. There's so many people and so many corners in SDSU that you would never realise are right there. Some people and opportunities might just be a building or room away but are worlds apart in their experiences. So don't be afraid to try many and new things while you're there. Reach out and dream big! You never know what could happen.
