Kate's Exchange to University of Turku | Finland

I went on exchange for one semester to the University of Turku in Finland. I didn’t know anything about Finland before I left but I am so glad I went.

I learnt so much in my time there, not only about Finland and the world around me but also about myself and my previous perceptions of the world. I made some invaluable friendships along the way and shared many special moments with people from all over the world.

Some of the best times I had on exchange were all the small trips to places like Stockholm, Tallinn and St. Petersburg. A highlight for me would have to have been the trip to Lapland I organised with some friends, we were out waiting on a frozen lake in the forrest when we suddenly realised we could see the Northern Lights.

Although there were many far less significant moments which I will always remember with fondness, like cooking meals with housemates or having nice conversations walking home from classes.

University of Turku has a strong student culture which I throughly enjoyed being a part of. I learnt a lot academically too and it has helped to focus my studies in the future.

Going on exchange was one of the best decisions and coming back I feel much more confident in myself and the decisions I make in the future.
