Kathryn's Exchange to University of East Anglia | England

My name is Kathryn. I studied Bachelor of Media majoring in Screen, Sound, and Radio, and in conjunction with my exchange I was able to add a minor in Global Engagement to the list as well. I will hopefully be graduating at the end of this year.

I went on exchange to the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich, UK. I only did a semester, though I wish it were so much longer. I studied general electives within the film and TV school which was incredible.

I found out about the exchange program because I went looking for it. Having wanted to study abroad all throughout high school, I had already done my research on the Murdoch website before attending their first international fair for 2012.  I chose to go because travelling is a passion of mine and the opportunity to have access to Europe, live independently in a whole new environment, and meet completely new people, was one too good for me to miss out on.

The list of highlights is too long to go into detail. I made so many new life friends, learnt so many new things, took up rock climbing, fell in love, worked hard, partied harder, got burnt by the English sun, travelled some of Europe, and then made plans almost immediately to go back and visit in my Summer holidays- Which I did and included me going on the UEA snow club's Ski trip to the French alps for a week.

I still don't know what I'm going to do when I graduate, but I know that staying in one place is never going to be it. My exchange confirmed what I had only a small idea of before I had gone, and that's that there is SO much more out there for me and I won't be content until I have seen as much of it as I can. I constantly look around at the English universities and look at their masters or postgrad courses, toying with the idea of going back to UEA for another year. I also enjoy working with children and have looked into American summer camps or nannying around Europe; things to keep me moving until I know exactly what it is that I want to do.

Exchange has changed my life in so many ways. I learned so much through the friends that I made, the people I fell in love with, and in having to say goodbye to them. When I get to go back to England I know that all of the friends I made there will have graduated and have no idea when or if I will see them all together again. But this just means that I get to see more of the country and visit them all one by one as we catch up on all of the new things in our lives.

I don't know what else to say other than every student should experience studying in another country
